Products and Services to Sell at Your Online Home Based Business

A successful online home based business needs a highly motivated owner to steer it in the right course. But what will ultimately get you that word-of-mouth publicity all the marketing gimmicks in the world cannot buy is the quality of product and services that you provide. If the product is relevant, unique and will contribute positively to the lives of the consumer, then the rest of the selling process is easy. Think of a product or service you want to sell and that you can stake your reputation on. Here are some ideas to get you started:

1.    Software, CGI Scripts and Programming Services – If you’re a gifted programmer, you can sell your software product online. An example would be a simple internet café software product that small internet café owners can install in their shops. This is one of the best products to sell on a website because all the customer has to do is to download the program directly from the site. You can offer free software trial versions too so the customer knows what to expect from the paid full version of the product. CGI scripts are also in high demand for web designers who may not be experts in programming. In the same manner, you can offer your programming services to companies and individuals looking for freelance programmers.

2.    E-books – Writers who have been dreaming of publishing a book can now publish their own e-books. This was unheard of a couple of years ago. With the advent of Amazon’s Kindle, iPhone, iPad and other e-reading gadgets and applications, ebooks are all the rage. You can self-publish your e-book on Apple’s iBookstore for free and you can set your own price. There are successful authors who initially gave free short e-book versions of their stories and became highly successful published authors when thousands of fans started subscribing to their site. One of these authors is Scott Sigler who wrote Infection.

3.    Affiliate Marketing – If you have no inclination to create your own product, you can still use the Internet to generate profit by building an affiliate site. Affiliate programs are websites that link to merchant sites which sell products and services. Your site’s purpose is to generate traffic and sales to the merchant site without you having to sell the product yourself. There are different compensation plans like the Pay-per-sale where you get paid when a product is sold via your link. Another payment strategy is the Pay-per-click, in which you get paid just by the user clicking on the merchant’s link on your site. Pay-per-lead is where a customer fills out a form that the merchant can use as a sales lead and you get paid.

4.    Multi-level Marketing – Products in multi-level marketing can be sold online through websites provided by the company. You can increase your chance of landing a sale by making use of your own social network and promoting the products through blogs and forums. Online home based business does not mean you have to create your own product. You only have to be creative and resourceful in marketing and generating sales from existing products.
